Is the world going to hell in a handbasket? I don't think we're quite there yet. I would say we're close. We're more like...in Hell's Giftshop.

It's the Little Things

So lately I've been appreciating the little things in life. Most of them center around my new house. You know what I like? Little hooks behind the door in the bathroom. There's something very nice about being able to hang your pajamas on a hook behind the door where no one else can see them. It makes for a nice little morning routine. In the past, I've thrown them in a heap on the floor in front of my bedroom closet. I could have installed a nice little hook in my old bathroom. But I never did. But I like my new hook.

I like opening the windows in the morning and seeing the mountains and Pikes Peak. There's something very nice about opening one's windows and being able to say, "Wow, there's mountains out there." And I don't have to walk down the bottom of the driveway in winter when the trees are bare to be able to see them. I like that.

I like being able to turn on my little electric baseboard heater and actually feel heat immediately. And I like that the little knob for them is on the wall and I don't have to become a contortionist to reach down behind furniture to turn the heater on..like in the old place.

I like having a level driveway.

I like seeing my mom's jars with the red lids all lined up in a neat rown in my pantry just like they were lined up in her pantry.

I like living on the same street as I did when I was a kid. But in a different state. And it's Colorado. That's the best part.

I like knowing that when something doesn't work I can fix it myself or pay someone to fix it and not have to wait for a landlord.

I like my house. Can you tell?
